I’m Gary Cordery, graphic designer at lanta.london, typographical map-maker at The Little Print Shop and cyclist on Strava. A combination which makes me perfect for the stravart curator’s job!

I’m an occasional artist as well as shown in the examples below, with Bruderkuss being my standout piece. This started with an email from Strava Germany who were looking for a special Strava Art to commemorate 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. And after two weeks of planning, two visits to Berlin, 225kms of cycling in 15 hours around Berlin, an image of the Bruderkuss, a socialist fraternal kiss between Gorbachev and Honecker, was created.

This was created using the ‘pause’ technique due to the lack of suitable roads in Berlin. To create a straight line, press start on your GPS unit then immediately press pause before you start moving; ride to the next point while the unit is paused; then once there unpause your unit. You’ll have a straight line when uploaded to Strava. Repeat this another 200 times to get an image like Bruderkuss, but it takes a lot of planning! The more shorter straight lines you do, the more you get an illusion of a curve.
